Meet Laura
Laura Sloman, CEO and founder.
I began my career as a management consultant at Accenture. In this role, I helped clients in the financial services industry improve their process efficiency to drive down costs, and meet required compliance standards to manage regulatory risk. After this I worked at Goldman Sachs, where I spent almost a decade in the Operations division. I was a programme manager, running large scale, regulatory and technology projects. In my last year, I was Chief of Staff for a global business area, responsible for implementing people strategies and understanding team culture.
Building on this experience, I was COO, and then CEO of a dietetics healthtech start up, Counterweight. My role initially was to professionalise the business, and create company governance to enable growth. I hired more team members, revised policies, procedures and enhanced their data protection and cyber security compliance to meet the NHS’ high standards. With the help of the wonderful team, we launched a new website, built an app and positioned us to successfully bid for important NHS tenders. As a result of this work, we grew our revenues significantly, and were awarded a place on the NHS England framework to deliver our services nationally for Type 2 Diabetes Remission.
Most recently, I was COO of a healthtech scale up supporting children’s learning needs, called The Key Clinic. Again, my role initially was to establish new policies, procedures, set up performance management and overall governance. I partnered with the CEO to enable significant growth, through hiring new team members and opening a new clinic in central London. This reduced clinic wait times and enabled us to offer more services to our clients. Outside of these roles, I am a Trustee of a mental health charity where I provide oversight and support to their launch and growth.
All these roles and businesses, whilst different, had many things in common. All had a keen eye on growth, and with that, the importance of staying lean, driving efficiencies, thinking and acting swiftly, always moving forwards, and always looking after people. These are all challenges I want to help businesses tackle, in an impactful, efficient and thoughtful way.
